Karl Marx Allee was designated the DDR's first "Socialist Boulevard" - a showcase
for the East German communist regime. This roadway runs from Alexanderplatz,
where the TV Tower is located. Throughout the cold war, the DDR
(East Germany) government used Karl Marx Allee to showcase its troops and
weapons in military parades.
