Checkpoint Charlie was the famous border crossing point between communist
East Berlin and West Berlin. The Berlin Wall divided the city for
nearly 30 years (1961-1989). During that period, there were many
successful and unsuccessful escape attempts, many of which are chronicled in
the Checkpoint Charlie Museum.
